Overview

Zen Timer is a meditation timer app built by Marcus Otterstad. Your privacy matters — the app collects only what is needed to provide core functionality. No data is sold, shared with third parties, or used for advertising.

Data We Collect

Account information

When you create an account, we collect your email address and a user ID generated by Firebase Authentication. Your password is handled entirely by Google Firebase — it is hashed on their servers and never stored or accessible by us.

Meditation sessions

Each completed meditation session is saved with a timestamp, duration, and your user ID. This data powers your history screen, heatmap, and streak tracking.

Preferences

Settings like countdown duration and streak grace period are stored locally on your device using shared preferences. They are not sent to any server.

How We Use Your Data

• Email: Account creation and login only.
• User ID: Associating your meditation sessions with your account.
• Session data: Displaying your meditation history, streaks, and heatmap.

Data Storage & Security

All data is stored in Google Firebase (Firestore and Firebase Authentication). Data is encrypted in transit via HTTPS. Firebase infrastructure handles encryption at rest. We do not maintain separate servers or databases.

Data Sharing

We do not share, sell, or transfer your personal data to any third party. The only external service involved is Google Firebase, which acts as our data processor.

Data Deletion

You can request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time by visiting your dashboard or by emailing us directly. Upon deletion, your account, email, and all meditation session data are permanently removed from Firebase.

Children's Privacy

Zen Timer is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.

Analytics & Tracking

Zen Timer does not use any analytics SDKs, crash reporting tools, advertising frameworks, or tracking mechanisms. We do not collect device IDs, location data, or usage analytics.

Changes to This Policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a new "last updated" date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance.
